Search for gas leak temporarily slows downtown traffic

The source of a leak that made parts of downtown London smell like natural gas has been found.

London firefighters were called to the area of Richmond Street and Central Avenue after the smell was reported around 6:40 a.m. on Friday. Multiple fire trucks arrived on scene and the search for the source began.

Richmond was reduced to one lane in each direction and London Transit detoured its buses as a precaution.

No injuries were reported.

Enbridge was notified and gas to the area was shut off.

The source of the leak was found at a Richmond property roughly an hour later with Enbridge crews working to repair the issue.
