A single-vehicle collision east of London claimed the life of one person on Sunday night.
The vehicle was on Catherine Street between Shaw Road and Westchester Bourne in Thames Centre when it veered off the road and crashed into a tree around 8:20 p.m., Middlesex OPP said.
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead. That individual's name and age has not been released.
The road was closed for several hours while the OPP traffic incident management and enforcement team was on scene investigating the cause of the crash. It was reopened shortly before 1 a.m. on Monday.
Police are asking anyone with information about the collision to call them at 1-888-310-1122.
This was the second fatal collision in Middlesex County over the weekend. Two motorcyclists were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon northwest of Strathroy. Middlesex OPP said a motorcycle and SUV collided on Egremont Drive, just west of School Road in Adelaide Metcalfe just after 1 p.m.
The two people on the motorcycle were pronounced dead, while the SUV driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The names of the deceased have not been released.
The investigation into the cause of that collision is ongoing.
