Jr. Hockey Wrap Up – September 8, 2017

Leamington Flyers scored their first win of the season by defeating Ancaster Avalanche 6-1 on Friday.

Cody Schneider, Andrew Thoms and Jaydon Fetter scored in the first period to give Leamington a 3-0 lead, and Kenny Styles made it 4-0 with a goal in the second.

Dylan Weston and Stephane Crevier each scored once for the Flyers in the final frame, and Ancaster made it on the board with less than six minutes left in the game.

Leamington will head to to Brantford on Sunday to face off against the Waterloo Siskins at 2pm.

As well, the London Nationals started off the regular season with a 5-3 loss to the St. Catharines Falcons.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first period, but Carson Brookshaw put London on the board with a goal in the second.

St. Catherines added took a 4-1 lead early in the final frame, but Cohen Kiteley and Jack Webb both scored to bring London within one goal.  The Falcons scored one final goal in the last 49 seconds to ensure the win.

The Nationals are in Brantford on Sunday to take on the Elmira Sugar Kings at 7:30pm.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
