Minto Wetland Concerns

Minto is not in favour of a plan by Bruce County to exclude locally significant wetlands from it official plan.

Minto Deputy Mayor Terry Fisk is worried that if Bruce County does it, other areas may follow suit, and it could affect their ability to control flooding in the town of Harriston.

"If they're allowed to do what they want to do, there may be others who do likewise, and eventually we may see it come to our area and affect our ability to control flooding in the town of Harriston. And I'm against that," he says.

Minto council heard that some conservation authorities also think it’s a bad idea, and Chief Building Official Terry Kuipers says he cannot think of a reason for them doing it.

There will be an open house in Walkerton on November 20 to discuss the proposed change.
