Southampton Hospital Expansion Moves Ahead

Saugeen Shores council is doing its part to help move the expansion of the Southampton hospital closer to reality.

Council rubber stamped the site plan for the $10-million expansion of Saugeen Memorial Hospital, which will include an additional 10,000 square-feet for an expanded laboratory and emergency room.

Director of Development Services Bart Toby says the site plan will help with protecting the hospital's neighbours from the activity around the hospital parking lot.

"We did some protecting of the lands around it, so neighbours wouldn't be looking directly at cars and kind of building a buffer area around that," says Toby.

The site plan will come back to the Saugeen Shores council table next month to be approved as a bylaw, with hospital expansion work expected to begin next year.
