Meaford And Grey Highlands Reach Fire Deal

The Meaford and District Fire Department will soon have a new fire protection agreement with Grey Highlands.

The recommendation to council is that it pass a by-law directing the mayor and town clerk to sign the agreement. It would be the first fire protection agreement between the two municipalities.

Fire Chief Mike Molloy told a council committee this week that the Meaford and District Fire Department has provided fire protection to the northern section of Euphrasia Township since 1987. The area serviced includes properties in and around Heathcote, Epping, Rocklyn, Temple Hill, Blantyre and Walters Falls.

Under the new agreement, Grey Highlands will pay a set fee for each emergency call. The department has based each call on the nature of the emergency, such as a house fire or motor vehicle accident, and the time needed to resolve it.
