New Environmental Slogan For Upper Grand Schools

The Upper Grand District School Board has a new environmental slogan. The board held a slogan contest for all students, and the winning entry was selected Wednesday by the board’s environment committee.

The slogan is: "Live Green. Learn Green. Go Green."

It was submitted by Grade 9 student Hannah Litzen from Centrel Wellington District High School. As a prize, Centre Wellington DHS will receive money for an environmental initiative of their choice.

Upper Grand is well-known for a number of unique initiatives, such as eco-portable classrooms at five schools. Some were built with straw bale insulation to showcase environmentally friendly building practices.

As well, more than 35 schools have rooftop solar systems, with real-time data displayed on video monitors in school foyers so students can study the effect of sunny or cloudy days on energy conservation.
