Huron County Opposes Rural Mail Changes

Huron County council is supporting a resolution from Collingwood, asking Canada Post to reconsider some of its changes to residential and rural mail delivery.

Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek used the example of a couple who recently built a home in his municipality, only to find that Canada Post would not allow them to put up a mail box in front of their property.

They were told they would have to drive about ten miles away to the nearest Post Office to pick up their mail.

They were also given the option that if they insisted on putting up a mail box, they would have to pay a significant fee, and the mail box would be grouped with several others that were a couple of farms down the road.

Huron County Council agreed to support the resolution.
