New Durham Soccer Field Discussed

A proposal for a new soccer field at the Soccer Complex in Durham failed to win a Trillium grant.

The soccer club was hoping to start construction in the spring, and has asked West Grey council to budget $90,000 for the project.

Club spokesman Randy Corfield says the project will cost about $147,000, but he hopes fundraising and corporate support will help offset the bill.

Over 200 children usually play soccer in West Grey.

West Grey Council's Committee of the Whole says they'll consider it during budget deliberations. They also suggested the soccer club complete work on the field, but defer lighting for consideration of a possible Trillium grant for next year.

The club will contact the Durham Homecoming Committee, which has money available for a community project.
