Wellington County OPP Officer Hit By Snow Scraper

An OPP officer on patrol near Fergus was injured last night.

The officer was patrolling Highway 6 between 2nd and 4th Line of Centre Wellington Township.

Around 9:15 he pulled the fully-marked vehicle over to the shoulder and activated the rear flashing lights. As he got out of the vehicle, he was struck in the face with a snow scraper.

The officer suffered facial injuries and was treated in hospital and later released. Police found a black plastic snow scraper at the scene, but there is no description of a vehicle or suspect.

Wellington County OPP is asking anyone who may have seen the police cruiser and the officer along Highway 6 between the 2nd and 4th Line of Centre Wellington around 9:15 last night to give them a call.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
