Howick Facing Increased Costs and Less Funding

Howick Township council started a new term last night fighting the same battle as other municipalities.

Increasing costs for policing and other services are on the horizon and the township has less funding for that.

Reeve Art Versteeg says losing 16 per cent in municipal partnership funding adds to the challenges ahead for the next budget.

Versteeg feels rural municipalities are being handed an unfair financial burden from the province. He hopes the burden on taxpayers is minimal as Howick works out the budget.

With only Richard Orr new to council, Versteeg says experience will be a huge asset heading into budget talks.
