South Bruce OPP Commander To Lead Mental Health Strategy Team

The detachment commander for South Bruce OPP is heading a team that's developing a best practices strategy for the OPP to deal with people with mental health problems.

Scott Smith says the goal is to ensure police respond appropriately when confronted with situations where a person's mental health is an issue.

He adds the team wants to make sure the public understands what police can and cannot do when dealing with people in mental health situations.

He expects to make recommendations to the OPP commissioner in March.
