Charges Laid after Hydro Pole Collision Near Walkerton

More information has been released about a single-vehicle crash last night in Walkerton that triggered a power outage.

An OPP officer on patrol tried to stop a small car on Bruce County Rd. 2 in Brant Township around 11pm, but the driver refused to pull over.

Shortly after the vehicle entered Walkerton, the officer who was following noticed a bright flash, and the town of Walkerton went dark. The car had crashed into a utility pole near the intersection of Durham St. and Peter St. in Walkerton.

The driver was found near the car with minor injuries. He was taken into custody, despite being uncooperative and belligerent with officers.

33-year-old Wayne Hunt of Teeswater has been charged with more than a dozen offenses, including flight from police, dangerous driving, impaired driving, possession of a controlled substance, and mischief over $5,000.

He was scheduled for a bail hearing today in Walkerton court.
