Walkerton Area Catholic Trustee Passes Away

A trustee with the Bruce Grey Catholic District School board has passed away.

Gerard Kroeplin was reelected as trustee for the Walkerton area in the October Municipal election.

The 70-year-old passed away on Monday, after suffering medical distress, while driving in Hanover.

Kroeplin also served two terms as trustee for Owen Sound and Sarawak before retiring and moving to Hanover. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Highschool in Walkerton, and his children attended St.Basil's School, and St. Mary's High School in Owen sound.

Kroeplin was a volunteer on the exploratory committee studying the feasibility of a Catholic high school in Owen Sound in 1982. The schools beginning, success, and growth was one of Kroeplin's proudest achievements.

A funeral mass is planned at Sacred Heart Church in Walkerton on December 20 at 11am.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
