Public Meeting On Closure of Chesley Hospital Unit

A date has been set for a public meeting to discuss the closure of one of the units at the Chesley hospital.

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre's Board of Directors announced last month that the Restorative Care Unit at the Chesley site would be closing in May.

Since then, the Health Centre's Board, the Ministry of Health, the South West LHIN have received a lot of feedback from the public emphasizing the importance of this program to the community.

The 10-bed Restorative Care Unit opened in November 2011. The focus was to help hospitalized patients from Grey and Bruce to regain their independence after the acute phase of an illness, with the expectation that they would be able to return home.

The unit has cost the Health Centre nearly $800,000 annually to run, and new provincial programs have been introduced to care for a similar patient population.

The public meeting will be held at the Elmwood Community Centre on Friday, January 23rd, starting at 4:00 o'clock.
