Two Bluewater Groups Want to Become Committees of Council

Bluewater council has deferred a decision on a request from two separate groups to become Committees of Council.

The Hay Township Hall Committee and the Bayfield Arena Community Partners have asked for the designation so they could be covered under the municipality's insurance rather than having to pay for their own.

Mayor Tyler Hessel says council recently approved a new procedural bylaw, but there was some question about the clarification of the definition of a Committee of Council. Councillors want that definition cleared up before they make a decision.

Hessel adds another concern of council is that they could be setting a precedent that would encourage any community group to be designated a Committee of Council.
