Owen Sound Rally Against Keystone XL Pipeline

There's a rally planned in Owen Sound this evening, calling on President Obama to reject the Keystone XL pipeline.

The pipeline would carry Alberta tar sands crude to the Texas gulf coast.

Rally organizer Richard Allerton says the oil should be left in the ground if global temperature averages are not to increase more than two degrees celsius. He's worried that any further increase in global warming will lead to catastrophic climate conditions.

The rally this evening in Owen Sound is in front of the office of Bruce Grey Owen Sound Conservative M-P Larry Miller, starting at 6:15.

The Keystone XL bill passed a key hurdle in the U-S Congress Monday. The Senate has agreed to press ahead with the bill to force President Obama to approve the Canadian oil infrastructure. The bill now moves back to the floor for additional debates, which could lead to major amendments.

The White House opposes the legislation as long as the administration is still conducting its formal review.
