Owen Sound Tries New Road De-Icers

The City of Owen Sound will conduct a pilot project this winter with a product called ClearLane Enhanced De-icer which would replace regular rock salt.

Public Works says the product reduces cost per lane mile because there is less road scatter and it does not require mixing equipment.

It would also require up to 40 per cent less product usage compared to traditional salt, which is better for the environment.

ClearLane also is more effective at melting ice at temperatures when rock salt is ineffective.
