Water Rates Rise In Meaford

Most Meaford homeowners can expect to pay about $6 more a month this year for their drinking water.

They will also have to pay about $3.40 more a month for the disposal of their waste water.

Leith area residents, however, can expect to pay about $8 more a month for their drinking water.

Treasurer Darcy Chapman told council this week the increases are the result of increased spending needed to pay for repairs to, or replacement aging water and sewer lines and other infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Meaford will need to spend more this year replacing aging waterlines and other water supply infrastructure. Two watermain breaks over the past 17 months have shown the need for this work.
