Fatal Crash North Of Goderich

The Huron County OPP is investigating a fatal crash north of Goderich.

Police, Huron County EMS and the Goderich Fire Department were called out at 6:45pm to a two vehicle crash on Bluewater Veteran’s Hwy. (Hwy. 21) just north of Saltford Rd.

A preliminary investigation determined the driver of a Pontiac Montana minivan was traveling north on Bluewater Veteran’s Hwy. when he tried to pass another northbound vehicle. The minivan crossed over the center line and collided with a southbound Ford F-350 pickup truck.

The driver and lone occupant of the minivan died at the scene.

He has been identified as 44-year-old Michael Essery from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for today.

The 28-year-old male driver of the pickup was uninjured.

Bluewater Veteran’s Hwy.y between Saltford Rd. and MTO Rd. re-opened around 3am.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
