Southwest Transportation Forum In St. Marys

The Southwestern Ontario Transportation Alliance is working on a plan to substantially increase train service in the region, including Perth County.

The organization has a vision for an integrated, sustainable passenger transportation system in a region extending from the Detroit River to Wellington County.

The group says that would secure prosperity for local communities, while connecting citizens to centres of excellence for education, health care and innovation.

They hope to connect local groups, government stakeholders and businesses in their effort to enhance rail, bus and transit service.

A public forum is planned for tonight at the St Marys Via Station from 7pm-9pm. Next Thursday, there's a forum in Stratford at the Kiwanis Community centre from 7pm-9pm.

Transportation Analyst and Policy Advisor Greg Gormick will be the speaker at several local forums planned. Gormick is also president of the organization On Track Strategies.
