Man Trapped Under Ice Dies In Hanover

A 30-year-old man from Bowmanville died after being caught under ice on the Saugeen River in Hanover.

Around 1:00 Sunday afternoon, the Hanover Police Service and Hanover firefighters worked to located and free Adam Robert Brunt from the frigid water for 15 minutes.   He was then rushed to the Hanover and District Hospital and treated for several hours before being pronounced dead.

A preliminary police investigation has determined Brunt was caught under the ice in fast-flowing water during a training exercise.   The exercise was being conducted by a private training firm from Newmarket, for ice and water rescue certification.

Brunt was training with eleven other students and one instructor at the time of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is scheduled to take place on Monday at the London Health Sciences Centre.
