ONA Picket in Wingham During CCAC Strike

There's no end in sight to a strike by 3,000 members of the Ontario Nurses Association against the Community Care Access Centres.

The strike includes 300 nurses who work in the South West CCAC which covers Bruce, Grey, Huron and Perth.

The strike is into its second week and in Wingham today, nurses are staging an information picket.

Diane Peckham is with the London office of the Ontario Nurses Association and says the main focus of the dispute is wages

The RN's who mainly work in assessing patients and co-ordinating homecare services, have had their wages frozen for the last two years.

They're looking for a wage increase comparable to other nurses in hospitals and nursing homes who have reached settlements in the 1.4 to 1.5 per cent range.
