Grey Bruce Health Unit Says Guard Against Extreme Cold

The Grey Bruce Health Unit advises people to take measures to guard against the extreme cold today.

Temperatures area already below -15 C in parts of the region, with the wind chill expected to reach -28 C or below in the coming days.

The health unit reminds the public to dress in layers with a wind resistant outer layer.

You should also change out of wet clothing right away, and protect your face with a face mask and goggles if you're skiing or snowmobiling.

The health unit suggests you keep moving, especially your hands and feet, to help maintain heat.

Drink warm beverages when out in the cold to help maintain core body heat. But avoid consuming alcohol which can increase your risk of hypothermia.

For information about the availability of warming stations, please check with your local municipality.
