Ontario Hands Out Some Ice Storm Payments

Ontario is delivering on its commitment to help communities affected by the ice storm in December 2013.

The province has initiated a final payment to the Township of Centre Wellington for $297,543. Township of Mapleton will receive $23,009 and the Township of Puslinch will get $44,923.

The province has also offered to provide municipalities and conservation authorities who have made claims for support with an interim payment. That will help them with their budget planning while the rest of their claim is finalized.

The remaining money will be issued once the claims review is complete and eligible costs are verified.

The December 2013 ice storm caused widespread damage and blackouts across southern, midwestern and eastern Ontario. At the peak of the storm, over 800,000 hydro customers were without power.
