McLaren Wins NDP Nomination In Bruce Grey Owen Sound

The Bruce Grey Owen Sound NDP has its candidate for the coming federal election.

Bruce County activist and writer David McLaren won the nomination over two other candidates at a meeting in Owen Sound last night.

McLaren has been working with the group Peace and Justice Grey Bruce and is the author of a recent report on precarious employment.

McLaren won the NDP nomination over social worker Trish Meekins and Women's Centre board member MaryAnn Wilhelm.

McLaren says he's in the race to win it and it's time for an alternative to the Liberals and Conservatives.

"They've been in power, the two of them, for much too long. They're getting very close together on policy now, there's not a lot of difference between those two parties on foreign affairs and on the economy and I think the NDP is the only alternative if people want some serious change," says McLaren.
