Appeal For Blyth-To-Walton Natural Gas Pipeline

Four Huron County municipalities have asked the province to consider an extension of a high pressure natural gas line from Blyth to Walton.

The request was made this week at the annual ROMA conference in Toronto. The presentation came jointly from the municipalities of Morris-Turnberry, Central Huron, Huron East, North Huron, and the County of Huron.

The group asked the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to consider regulatory changes that would allow the extension of gas infrastructure to more rural Ontario communities.

They also want criteria released for the Investment in Natural Gas Program. That program was announced last year, and included a promise of $200-million in loans and $30-million in grants.

The presentation concluded that the extension of the natural gas lines into rural communities would help entrepreneurs to create sustainable industry.
