Goderich Council Breakfast Meetings Rejected

A proposal for informal breakfast meetings with Goderich town councillors was lost on a tie vote at this week's council meeting.

The motion came from councillor Matt Hoy who explained that several Goderich residents had asked him how they could get to know their councillors better, and thought an informal meeting of some kind might be the answer.

Mayor Kevin Morrison says he supports the intent of breakfast meetings or something similar, but is concerned that technically anytime they have a quorum it is considered a council meeting and that would raise a number of legal issues as well as compensation for attendance at a meeting.

Morrison believes that was also the concern of other councillors and the reason why the motion was defeated, but added he believes it's a good idea and he'd like to see it come back in another form.
