Bayfield Bridge Reconstruction Plans Discussed

There's still no start date for construction on the bridge over the Bayfield River at the north end of the village of Bayfield.

Bluewater councillor Bill Whetstone is meeting regularly with MTO officials.

He says the good news is the plan calls for a portable, two-lane bridge to be constructed beside the existing bridge.

It's taking some time to do all the preparation, but it does mean that the construction should only have minimal impact on traffic through Bayfield.

Whetstone adds he's been told there are ten bridges altogether in this group of bridges, starting from Hwy. 401 and coming back to Bayfield. Those projects will be prioritized before the work starts.

Whetstone says based on that,  he'd be very surprised if any construction actually started this summer.
