Controlled Burn Planned For Allen Park Conservation Area

Plans are being finalized for a controlled burn next month within the Allan Park Forest Management Tract.

Saugeen Conservation has hired Lands and Forests Consulting to conduct the prescribed burn, scheduled for mid-to-late April, depending on conditions.

The fire will eliminate the build-up of dead and undesirable material which then allows grasses and other plants to self-seed quicker. The burn will blacken the soil with nutrient-rich ash, which will also warm the soil and encourages plant growth.

The Allan Park Forest Management Unit and the Allan Park Conservation Area will be closed, before and after the burn.

The West Grey Fire Department and the Grey County Ambulance have been notified of the operation.
