Colder Weather Slows Runoff in Ausable Bayfield Watershed

Colder weather for the rest of the week will slow down the local snowmelt and runoff.

A Condition Statement from the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority today indicates that water levels are high in smaller watercourses, and will peak in the larger rivers later this week. But peak levels will remain well below typical spring conditions.

The conservation authority warns that some river ice has weakened and is moving, and there is a risk of ice jamming in the lower portions of the Ausable and Bayfield Rivers and the river mouth areas.

And the conservation authority is once again reminding residents that all ice should be considered unsafe.
