Saugeen Valley Conservation Drops West Grey Charges

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority is withdrawing charges against the Municipality of West Grey and its chief building official.

A settlement has been reached between all three parties relating to charges laid in January 2014 when the rebuilding of a single detached dwelling destroyed by fire went ahead in the former Township of Bentinck, allegedly prior to SVCA’s approval.

The property in question falls under the provincial regulation of the SVCA because of the presence of hazardous lands including floodplain and wetlands.

The settlement includes a Memorandum of Understanding which further clarifies the watershed features and areas within the municipality that are regulated by the SVCA.

Both West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles and SVCA Chair Luke Charbonneau say they are pleased that a settlement has been reached.
