Meaford Will Not Replace Missing Swans

Meaford won't be replacing the two swans that disappeared from the pond at Lakeview Cemetery last fall.

On November 10, Meaford staff received a call from a concerned resident that the swans had wandered away from the pond. Staff searched the area around the pond for three days trying to find the two missing birds, but they vanished.

Community Services director Dan Buttineau says many residents advised staff against replacing the two swans, and that was his recommendation to Meaford council.

Buttineau said visitors to Lakeview Cemetery can still enjoy the natural surroundings the pond has to offer, including the wild ducks, geese and other wildlife.
