Georgian Students Learn At Meaford Fire Hall

Twenty students from the Georgian College Police Foundation course were at the Meaford firehall this week to observe local firefighters and an Emergency Medical Services team deal with the aftermath of a simulated head-on collision.

The demonstration involved rescuing drivers from the vehicles involved. After carefully removing the "victims" (students) from the vehicles, EMS staff and firefighters moved them to an ambulance for transportation to hospital.

Later, the students gathered in the firehall for an hour-long debriefing session. Two OPP officers and Fire Chief Mike Molloy conducted the session and also took questions from the students.

Molloy said later he was pleased with the rescue demonstration and impressed with the students' questions during debriefing.

"This is the first time we've run such a demonstration but it went well. With the OPP and local EMS helping, it was done in a really professional manner," says Molloy. "I thought the students learned a lot judging from the excellent questions they asked."
