Grey Bruce Health Unit Wants Streets Designed for Various Modes of Travel

There's an effort to revitalize streets in Grey and Bruce counties to make them user friendly for more than just motor vehicles.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit commissioned a study to see if that was possible. The idea is to design streets for all ages, abilities and modes of travel.

Consultant Nancy Smith acknowledges the rural nature of the area presents challenges. But she says it's definitely possible.

"Even within the counties I'm sure there are some trips that are short trips that could be made by walking and cycling, so it's just trying to make those trips much more comfortable for people."

Smith presented the findings at a workshop on how municipal policies can affect health
