Huron Bruce Liberal Candidate Opposes Canada's Expanded Role in the ISIL Mission

The Liberal Candidate for Huron Bruce calls Prime Minister Harper's proposed role in the campaign against ISIL an unfocused, unending combat mission for our armed forces.

Allan Thompson says the mission will not provide a constructive solution to the catastrophic humanitarian crisis going on in parts of Iraq and Syria.

Thompson would rather see Canada make a meaningful contribution away from the front lines of combat.

He says we should be training Iraqi forces to fight and destroy ISIL.

At the same time we should participate in well funded and well planned international humanitarian aid efforts ot the region.

Thompson says if the Liberal Party has the privilege to govern, they would shift the mission to a non combat role, focused on training, and humanitarian aid.
