Southgate Council Wants Money Owed By Citizens Group

Southgate acting Mayor Norm Jack refused to accept a $100 payment against a $41,000 debt owed the municipality by a citizen’s group known as SPIRG.

The Southgate Public Interest Research Group lost three court challenges to a controversial recycling plant in the Dundalk Eco Industrial Park and the group was ordered to pay court costs.

Doyle Prior, acting on behalf of the group, offered a cheque for $100 to the acting mayor.

In declining to accept the money, Jack says SPIRG had been difficult to deal with for years and he was not impressed with the effort to "kiss and make up."

Mayor Anna-Marie Fosbrooke vacated the mayor’s chair because of past involvement with SPIRG.
