Emergency crews responded after a small group of canoers ended up in the water.
With help from Saugeen Shores police, Bruce County EMS and the Joint Rescure Coordination Centre in Trenton, fire crews in Saugeen Shores were able to complete the rescue.
All three canoers were taken to hospital in Southampton and later released.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
