Midwestern Ontario Jobless Rate Stays Low

The jobless rate in midwestern Ontario remains much lower than the province's.

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board estimates the unemployment rate last month was 5.9 per cent. That compares to the province's rate of 7.1 per cent and Canada's rate of 6.8 per cent.

While the labour market in Bruce, Grey, Perth and Huron counties saw full-time employment numbers drop by 500, the addition of 200 new part-time opportunities off-sets the total loss of 300 jobs.

Employment declines were registered in construction and utilities.
