Perth County Halt EMS HQ As Merger With Huron Looms

The new Emergency Medical Services station slated for construction on Douro St. in Stratford has hit a road block in the approval process.

The potential for a merger with with Huron County led Perth County councilors to shoot down a staff recommendation to approve the proposal from Gateman-Milloy Incorporated for a $5-million facility that would service Perth County.

Council approved the land purchase in Stratford over a year ago and the effort to create the base is already in its third year.

There was frustration on the part of several council members who were unhappy that the decision to defer the construction had come so late in the process.

Council voted against beginning construction by a narrow margin and it's unclear what the next step will be in the already lengthy process.
