Pioneer Era Human Bones Found In Owen Sound

An investigation is being conducted after pioneer era human remains were found in Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound Police Service says portions of a human skull were discovered on Tuesday on a residential property that borders the Sydenham River, just south of the mill dam.

Police say the residents of the property were removing an old deck at the water’s edge and discovered the bones once the majority of the deck had been removed.

The coroner was contacted and, through consultation with an anthropologist, the bones were identified as being human. The bones are believed to be the remains of an elderly woman and have been at the location for a considerable period of time. It is also believed that the bones were washed to the location by the river and were not been buried there.

Police say further examination is being conducted to better determine the age of the bones.
