Emergency Warning Test on Radio Today

A new warning system is being tested today on radio stations across Canada, including at CKNX am920, 101.7 The One and Classic Rock 94.5.

Just before 11:00 this morning an emergency test message will be broadcast.

The new national system can be used for anything from natural disasters, to weather events and even for Amber Alerts. The test comes during Emergency Preparedness Week.

The new national warning system that is being tested today across radio and television stations, just before 11:00am, is a CRTC initiative that started in 2009.

Ryan Maeck is the Disaster Management Coordinator for the Canadian Red Cross in Stratford and Owen Sound. He says this test is a reminder to families to be prepared to take care of themselves for 72 hours in case of an emergency.
