Some Avon Maitland Students Absent To Protest Sex Education Curriculum

The Director of the Avon Maitland Disrict School Board says some students did not attend school yesterday as a protest against the new Physical and Health Education curriculum.

Ted Doherty points out it's difficult to put a number to how many parents were protesting the curriculum because some students were away for other reasons as well.

He says teachers and principals would have a better idea of how many parents were actually protesting.

Doherty adds he doesn't know at this time if the protest is for one day or if it will continue for the rest of the week.

Doherty also explains in situations where parents have concerns about any of their children's classes the board encourages them to discuss those concerns with the teachers or principals involved in the hope that a compromise can be reached
