Listowel District Secondary School Hosts Health And Wellness Day

Listowel District Secondary School hosted a health and wellness day that they hope to see expand in the future.

The program was the first of its kind for area high schools with students spending the afternoon taking classes on the subject of fitness and mental health.  Subjects included workouts, meditation, nutrition, psychology and body image.

Organizer and teacher Laurie Chapman says area businesses in the health field came forward to offer the workshops. She says the goal is to engage students on the subjects of both mental and physical health.

"You can use fitness in order to become more mentally fit," she says. "If you treat your physical fitness sometimes that payoff comes."

She says it was important to cover both the physical and mental aspects of as they go hand in hand with the well being of students.

Chapman adds the day wouldn't be possible without the staff and volunteers who came forward. Now the goal is to plan similar events in the future.
