Minto Takes Over Palmerston Trails

The Palmerston Trail Association has handed over its trail system to the Town of Minto.

Association President David Burns told council the group’s aging membership is not growing and members are less inclined or able to carry out necessary fundraising or trail maintenance.

Minto council plans to form a committee to look after the Palmerston Trails and possibly the Harriston and Clifford trails as well.

Mayor George Bridge would like to see a municipal-wide trail system in place for Canada's 150th birthday in 2017.

In the meantime, the Palmerston group plans to plant about 1,000 trees this week with the help of Wellington County’s Green Legacy program.
