Tom Thomson Art Gallery Target Of Fraud Attempt

Owen Sound police are warning off fraudsters after the assistant to the director of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery was asked to wire money to the director.

After she received a request to wire a significant amount of money to an address in California on Friday, she followed up with the director in person.

Police say the email appeared to be from the art gallery director.

Police officials say a City of Owen Sound IT technician was called to investigate and confirmed that the email address had been “spoofed” and would re-route to a different address.

The Owen Sound Police Service would like to remind citizens that money transfers should always be followed up in person.
