Listowel Firefighter To Be Honoured At Run Around The Square In Goderich

A fallen North Perth firefighter will be honoured at the sixth annual Run Around the Square Sunday morning in Goderich.

The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund-backed 5 km road race will start at 8am, with nearly 500 runners signed up to participate.

This year, the DMMF will donate their 40th defibrillator in honour of Raymond Walter, one of the two firefighters who lost their lives while battling a blaze at a dollar store in Listowel on March 17, 2011.

“It is a real honour to give back locally and Mr. Walter's widow and parents will be at the donation as well,” Fund Founder Patrick Armstrong tells CKNX News.

The DMMF donates defibrillators in memory of fallen law enforcement, fire, EMS and military members who have died in the line of duty. The donation named in honour of Walter, which will be the organization's 40th, will go to the Listowel Golf Club.

Kenneth Rea, the other North Perth firefighter who was killed during the 2011 blaze, was the namesake of the organization’s 39th donation. That defibrillator can be found at the Listowel Legion.
