Port Elgin Harbour Rehabilitation Starts Next Year

The harbour in Port Elgin will get $1 million in federal funding to help with repairs.

Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb was in Port Elgin today to make the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.

This investment at the Port Elgin Harbour will involve rehabilitation of the west pier by encapsulating the existing structure in steel sheet piling.

The project will ensure safe berthage for harbour users as well as maintain the integrity of the fuelling wharf.

Preparation and planning for this project will take place over the next months, and construction is scheduled to begin in the Fall of 2016.

Lobb was also in Bayfield in mid-April to announce money for the improvements needed at the Bayfield Harbour.
