GBHS To Begin Cancer Unit Renovations

Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound will begin major renovations to its cancer care unit next month.

The $2-million upgrade will take about six months and increase the space for cancer care by about 40 per cent.

Hospital CEO Lance Thurston says the changes anticipate a big increase in the number of cancer patients in the coming years.

The project is funded through the Grey Bruce Health Services $11.4-million fund-raising campaign.

To date the campaign has raised $10-million in a little over a year.

"So this is going to provide an expansion in floors pace which is going to enable us to have lots more privacy, lots more elbowroom, a much more comfortable space for the patients, for their families, more room for the physicians," says Thurston.
