Sacred Heart's Junior Building In Mildmay Closing Over Needed Infrastructure Repairs

The junior building of Sacred Heart School in Mildmay will close at the end of this school year after officials determined the facility needed critical roof and drainage improvements.

In a letter sent home with parents Friday, the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board said junior kindergarten to Grade 3 students will attend the elementary school's senior building to begin the 2015/16 school year.

Currently, Sacred Heart houses its JK to Grade 3 students in their junior building (8 Vincent St.), and its Grade 4 to Grade 8 students in their senior facility (18 Peter St. South).

School board officials said the needed repairs to the junior building would be very costly and would not address additional maintenance concerns.

Based on projected enrolment, staff say they are confident the senior building can accommodate Sacred Heart's entire student body.

The junior school property itself will still be used as a play yard for students.

According to officials, both the senior and junior buildings currently have unused space.
